What is Physiotherapy?
- Physiotherapy encompasses a thorough initial assessment of each client; allowing the client to outline their problem, associated symptoms, medical history, and ask any questions they have about their problem. The physiotherapist will then perform an objective physical exam noting range of motion, strength, and what limitations exist within the neuromusculoskeletal system. Follow up visits allow the physiotherapist to use outcome measures which are tools that help determine if the treatment plan is helping and if the client is making progress.
- Treatment plans can involve a variety of options such as manual therapy, acupuncture, modalities but must always involve proper education and exercise in helping an individual move and feel their best. An effective treatment plan should address the main issues that are holding the client back from achieving their goals. Proactive education given by the therapist can ensure the client is able to navigate the recovery process effectively. Physiotherapists are regulated health care providers; meaning they must uphold standards of practice within their profession and must adhere to these standards while helping clients achieve their individualized goals.
